The 38th Bahrain Chambers elections to elect 18 board members have kicked off.
Voters have started trickling to the Bahrain International Exhibition and Convention Centre in Sanabis.
Bahraini businessman Abduljalil Al Ansari became the first to register to vote and then cast his ballot.
There are 35 polling booths in total, with two reserved for people with special needs.
The elections will run all day, with voting expected to close at 10pm.
THE 30th Bahrain Chamber (BCCI) board elections will be held today at the Bahrain International Exhibition and Convention Centre.
A total of 33 candidates are in the fray competing for 18 BCCI board seats.
They represent Tojjar 22 and Riyadah blocs, in addition to a number of independent candidates and six women.
Voting will start at 8am and run until 10pm and electronic counting will begin as soon as voting ends, said Elections Committee chairman Adel Al Maskati.
“Voters are required to renew commercial registers and fulfil all voting conditions,” he said, adding that voters will need their ID cards or passports to cast their ballots.
Candidates ended their electoral campaigns last Thursday. Tojjar 22 bloc, led by Sameer Nass, which includes 18 candidates, has better chances of winning a second term, according to a report in our sister paper Akhbar Al Khaleej
