THE national Press has been praised for its pivotal role in enlightening society and highlighting Bahrain’s landmark development strides.
Senior government officials and ministers paid tribute to the Fourth Estate for reflecting public aspirations and key national issues, marking Bahrain Press Day, which falls today.
Shura Council chairman Ali Saleh Al Saleh and Parliament Speaker Fouzia Zainal highlighted national Press strides since His Majesty King Hamad launched the reform project.
They stressed the role of the Press in strengthening democracy and promoting freedom of opinion and expression, which are enshrined in the National Action Charter, the constitution and other legislations and laws.
They praised the support of the government, chaired by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
Foreign Minister Dr Abdullatif Al Zayani commended His Majesty’s initiative to mark Bahrain Press Day for the eighth year in a row.
“It reflects his constant support for a free media, and its vital role as an active partner in preserving the nation’s identity and culture and enhancing its developmental and democratic achievements,” he said.
The minister extended his congratulations to the kingdom’s Press and media, praising the efforts of the Information Affairs Ministry, the National Communication Centre (NCC), the Bahraini Journalists Association, all Press and media institutions, writers and journalists.
He affirmed the ministry’s keenness to consolidate partnership with the Press and the media, in implementation of royal directives to enhance Bahrain’s status as a pioneering model in promoting human rights and public freedoms.
Information Affairs Minister Ali Al Rumaihi praised the support of the leadership for putting in place all requirements for Press and media institutions in the kingdom to exercise their national role freely.
“This year’s Bahrain Press Day is celebrated in the midst of Bahrain’s ongoing recovery from the repercussions of the Covid-19 pandemic, thanks to the successful efforts of Team Bahrain, led by HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister,” he said.
He praised the patriotic and honourable role played by Bahrain’s Press and media institutions on the frontlines of the fight against the pandemic.
Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Minister Essam Khalaf and NCC chief executive Youssef Al bin Khalil also issued statements praising the national Press.
