A MOTORIST has been jailed for three years for causing the death of a restaurant delivery driver in a horrific accident on King Faisal Highway earlier this month.
The GCC national was drunk when he jumped the red signal, leading to the fatal crash on May 7.
The 40-year-old deceased, who worked for a popular fast-food chain, was later identified as Bangladeshi Sayed Nazmul.
He was on his way to deliver the day’s final order when he collided with the car at around 5am.
The defendant was found guilty of reckless driving, manslaughter, speeding and being drunk and disorderly by the Lower Criminal Court yesterday. He received the maximum sentence.
“The GCC national has been found guilty of all of the charges due to sufficient evidence against him,” read the court ruling.
“He caused a horrific accident on King Faisal Highway after he passed the red light without stopping.
“He was driving at an insane speed and he killed his victim in the car crash due to his reckless actions and being drunk and disorderly.”
He will be deported after completing his sentence.
