On Sunday, local media in Qatar reported the death of a four-year-old girl after she fell asleep on a school bus.
According to reports, the Indian expat girl was on her way to her private kindergarten school in Al Wakrah when she fell asleep on the bus, unbeknownst to the supervisors on board.
The bus was then reportedly left in an open space under the midday heat, which can reach 40°C during this time of year.
The child, who was also celebrating her birthday on the same day, was found hours later at 11.30am. She was rushed to a hospital, but doctors were unable to save her.
Qatar’s Education Ministry has launched an investigation into the death.
“The Ministry, as well as the respective authorities will take the necessary measures as well as the maximum punishment against the aggressors with regards to regulations and according to the results of the ongoing investigation," said a statement from the ministry.
“The ministry also affirms its keenness to adhere to the highest quality of security and safety standards for its students, and will not tolerate any shortcomings in this regard. It extends its sincerest condolences to the family of the deceased student,” it added.
