ON THE priority list of Hussain Al A’ali, who is gearing up to recontest a seat for Northern Governorate constituency six (A’ali and Ramli districts), is to ensure his home community receives all the benefits of a town.
The 69-year-old veteran politician, who is the president of the A’ali Cultural and Sports Club, told the GDN that his vision for A’ali includes secondary schools and a youth club.
“My prime vision for A’ali is to get all the status of a town that it deserves,” Mr Al A’ali told the GDN at the Yathrib Intermediate School for Girls, Hamad Town – the supervisory centre in the Northern Governorate. Yet when it comes to the benefits and allocations, A’ali still remains in the village category.
“We have two residential blocks in Ramli added to the constituency – all of which makes A’ali a major town.”
The former senior Health Ministry official said his choice of a municipal council seat stemmed from his love of public service.
“Unlike at Parliament where elected representatives deal more with legislations, a councillor’s job involves direct service to the people and I love doing this.
“I’m hopeful and either way, I’ll do my best to build on what we have already achieved. There is still a lot to be done. We need to build secondary schools in A’ali and also a good sports club facility.
“We need to work more on the infrastructure – many buildings need renovation and many areas need to be developed.
“The challenge is the budget, one of the major constraints which put a lot of pressure on the government and on us, yet we are optimistic about the teamwork being in place to achieve our goals.”
A’ali, a relatively new suburb famous for its ancient burial mounds and its old pottery handicraft, is located in the middle of the island, south of Isa Town and north of Riffa.
