THE BDF Royal Guard Search and Rescue Team has been honoured for its humanitarian relief mission in the aftermath of the February 6 earthquake in the south of Türkiye.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan presented the team with the ‘State Medal of Sacrifice’ at a ceremony held at the Beştepe National Convention and Culture Centre in Ankara.
The mission, Operation Sawa’ed Al Ghaith (Arabic for Helping Hands), came in compliance with the royal orders and directives of His Majesty King Hamad with the support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, and BDF Commander-in-Chief Field Marshal Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, and the continuous and direct follow-up by National Security Adviser and Royal Guard Commander Major General Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
Major Fadel Ali Al Nuaimi, Commander of the Search and Rescue Team, received the medal.
Members of the elite team joined international relief efforts in Türkiye shortly after the earthquake, helping rescue victims from the rubble.
The task force started its mission from Hatay province, working alongside teams from Oman and Türkiye’s Interior Ministry Disaster and Emergency Management department.
The Turkish president expressed his appreciation to His Majesty for his sincere feelings and generosity, and prayed that Allah protect him and the Bahraini people from all harm and wished security and prosperity to all.
He also expressed his sincere thanks to the people of Bahrain for helping Türkiye overcoming the tragic natural disaster, and to members of the search and rescue team for helping find survivors and provide necessary assistance at the site of the disaster.
