A MAN and his girlfriend have been sentenced to jail for multiple drug-related charges by the High Criminal Court.
Despite denying the charges in court, the 45-year-old Bahraini was found guilty of possessing methamphetamine – locally known as shabu – with an intent to distribute as well as using hashish and Lyrica pills.
He was also found guilty of providing narcotics free of charge to his 39-year-old Thai girlfriend, and possessing a sword illegally.
He was sentenced to five years behind bars and fined BD3,000 for the drug charges as well as an additional month in jail for sword possession.
Meanwhile, the woman was sentenced to six months behind bars, fined BD100 and will be deported after completing her sentence.
“The 45-year-old was in possession of methamphetamine with an intent to distribute and he also provided his co-defendant while also using and being in possession of an illegal sword,” read the written court verdict.
“Information was given to an anti-narcotics officer who conducted an investigation into claims of the 45-year-old selling drugs.
“After evidence was gathered a search and arrest warrant was executed at the defendant’s home in Sitra where drugs and tools used to consume drugs were found.
“A sword was also found on the property where the 39-year-old was found in an abnormal state in one of the bedrooms.
“The 45-year-old admitted to using various drugs and selling for BD20 per transaction while a urine analysis of both the defendants confirmed the presence of drugs in their systems.”
A forensic analysis of the 45-year-old’s phone revealed conversations regarding drug transactions as well as pictures and videos of white substances, and local and international phone numbers.
There were also pictures of locations with arrows and circles – dead drops – with voice notes from individuals negotiating drug sales.
