A man, identified by authorities as an Asian national, has been sentenced to three years in prison by the High Criminal Court and fined BD3,000 on charges related to human trafficking, the Public Prosecution announced yesterday.
In addition to the sentence and fine, the defendant has been ordered to cover the costs of repatriating the victim to her home country.
He will be deported upon completing his jail term. According to the authorities, the defendant exploited the victim by forcing her to work without pay for his financial gain.
Following a report filed about the victim’s situation, an investigation was launched that led to the identification of the accused.
Officials recorded the victim’s testimony, interrogated the defendant, and sought police inquiries, which confirmed the offence.
The case was then referred to the High Criminal Court, which issued the ruling.
