HORSERACING – PANNING For Gold and Chandigah were both victorious last night in the richest races of the 25th meeting in the 2025-26 season at Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club (REHC) in Sakhir.
Panning For Gold lifted the Sarens Nass Cup in the third of the nine-race card, while Chandigah clinched the Majid Rashid Alzayani Cup in the fifth event.
Panning For Gold triumphed for owners Al Mohamediya Racing and trainer Mohamed Hasan, with jockey Soufiane Saadi in the saddle. The six-year-old gelding took the 2,000m race, which offered a BD5,000 prize, ahead of Best Adventure, competing for Al Afoo Racing, Jaber Ramadhan, and Alberto Sanna. Wave Rider came third for Victorious Forever, George Scott, and Benoit De La Sayette, while in fourth was Hot Dancer, competing for Mohamediya, Ali Abdulmajeed, and Hussain Asghar.
Chandigah, meanwhile, won over a 1,200m straight to take the lion’s share of the BD5,000 prize for owners Al Sharq Racing and trainer Mahmood Jawad. Ebrahim Nader steered the five-year-old to first place with Redemption Time as the runner-up for the Afoo-Ramadhan-Sanna triumvirate. Dream Out Loud took third for Hasan Mefareh Alajmi, Ramadhan, and Abdulla Faisal, while Grand Grey was third for Afoo, Ramadhan, and De La Sayette.
Also yesterday, Brooklyn Nine Nine claimed The Bahrain Jockey Academy Cup in the night’s seventh race, held over 1,600m with BD2,000 in winnings.
The six-year-old gelding took first for owners Rashed Racing and trainer Yousif Alboainain, with Ali Isa the jockey.
Falmouth Lad was the runner-up for Mohamediya, Abdulmajeed, and Qasim Jameel; Jarham came third for Mohamediya, Fawzi Nass, and Ali Moosa; and Shield Wall was classified fourth for Shaikh Isa bin Khalid bin Ali Al Khalifa, Abdulla Kuwaiti, and Ahmed Husain.
Kuheilan Weld Umm Zorayr 1838 lifted the Al Sakhir Cup in race one – A Waho event covering 1,200m with BD1,500 in prize money.
The seven-year-old won for Victorious Forever, Yousif Taher, and Mohammed Jamil. Kuheilan Aafas 1952 was second for Al Riffa, Alboainain, and Isa; Al Saqlawy 1874 took third for Victorious Forever, Taher, and Abdulrahim Jasim; and Kuheilan Weld Umm Zorayr 1959 finished fourth for Victorious Forever, Taher, and Asghar.
December won the Late S Sharaf Al Alawi Cup in race two, held over 2,200m with BD2,000 in prizes. The six-year-old gelding triumphed for Mohamediya, Abdulmajeed, and Hasan Al Saffar, narrowly beating Jerusalema, racing for Mohammed Khalid Abdulrahim, Haider Ebrahim, and Nader. Hattab was third for Shaikh Salman bin Khalid bin Ali Al Khalifa, Kuwaiti, and Jasim, while Epic came fourth for Alliance Racing, Alboainain, and Isa.
In another race, Hajmah clinched the Platinumlist Cup for the Mohamediya-Abdulmajeed-Asghar trio. The four-year-old filly took the 1,200m event for the biggest share of the BD2,000 prize, with Retaj in second for Al Meshqab Racing, Osama Hashim, and Jasim. Esrar came third for the Afoo-Ramadhan-Sanna triumvirate, while Tharb came fourth for Shaikha Deena bint Rashed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, Alboainain, and Jamil.
