A BAN on distributing flyers, brochures and leaflets in residential areas and streets could be enforced, if MPs have their way.
It comes following repeated complaints from the public that multiple flyers were left on the ground unattended for days, weeks and even months as cleaners and residents don’t remove or pick them up.
The urgent proposal was unanimously approved during Parliament’s session yesterday and referred to the Cabinet for review.
Six other proposals approved unanimously and referred to the Cabinet are:
- Sending Bahraini doctors to receive training abroad on emergency medicine.
- Ordering a return of Tamkeen’s financial wage support from employers who sack Bahrainis after the completion of their three-year period and hire new staff to receive funds from scratch.
- Restarting the cochlear implants programme at Salmaniya Medical Complex.
- Starting work on sewage networks in the Southern Governorate constituency four block 646.
- Making it compulsory to advertise all job vacancies in ministries and government bodies in the local Press.
- Launching a national strategy for autism and building a specialised centre for autistic cases.
MPs also approved three urgent proposals to issue statements on International Workers’ Day, celebrated on Monday; World Press Freedom Day, marked today, and Bahrain Press Day on Sunday. They deputised Parliament Speaker Ahmed Al Musallam to issue statements on their behalf.
Mr Al Musallam read out a briefing on the three occasions at the start of the session.
