SHURA Council Chairman Ali Saleh Al Saleh has said that all members should be treated equally, without exception.
He opened the weekly session of the upper house yesterday by demanding that his name be included in last week’s absentee list.
For the first time ever, second vice-chairwoman Dr Jihad Al Fadhel chaired last week’s session in the absence of Mr Al Saleh and first vice-chairman Jamal Fakhro, who were both abroad.
“The rules apply to all without exception and everyone has to be treated equally, including myself,” said Mr Al Saleh.
Last year, he issued a circular to members requesting that they address him as “brother chairman” instead of “his excellency the chairman”.
The Shura Council marked Bahraini Press Day by hosting a ceremony at the National Assembly Complex in Gudaibiya yesterday.
Mr Al Saleh praised the virtues of journalists and media personnel as an important pillar in enlightening the public and showcasing developments in society.
A cake was also cut on the occasion.
