PRIVATE schools could be forced to have 70 per cent Bahraini teachers, administrators and members of the faculty, as MPs yesterday unanimously approved a proposal.
They want the rule to be implemented from the new academic year starting in August with the wages of all Bahrainis partially supported by Tamkeen.
Parliament also backed a call for Tamkeen to support teachers in nurseries and kindergartens with increased wages, with MPs claiming that they earned less than BD150 a month.
The Labour Ministry had earlier announced that monthly wages for secondary school graduates should be BD300, diploma holders BD350 while BD450 should be given for bachelor’s degree holders.
MPs now want the new pay started from the new 2023-2024 school year from an original backdated to September last year after hearing it was impossible due to constitutional formalities.
Both proposals will now be reviewed by the Cabinet.
MPs also unanimously approved another proposal to issue a statement condemning the Education Ministry for changing the curricula to reflect the Abraham Accords, saying that the Palestinian cause was still a matter of pride.
They have deputised Parliament Speaker Ahmed Al Musallam to issue the statement on their behalf.
MPs have unanimously agreed to extend the time given to review the 2023-2024 state budget by four weeks until the middle of next month.
The original deadline expires on Monday next week.
