BAHRAIN has sent urgent medical relief supplies to Sudan.
A Gulf Air plane carrying the aid consignment landed at Port Sudan International Airport yesterday.
The move followed directives from His Majesty King Hamad and supported by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
The plane was received on arrival at the airport by Bahrain’s Ambassador to Sudan, Abdullah Rabia Saeed Rabia, and senior Sudanese officials.
The ambassador noted that the urgent relief materials would be distributed to hospitals to make up for the shortage of medical equipment and support the Sudanese people to overcome their crisis.
This initiative reflected Bahrain’s commitment to stand by the Sudanese people in the face of the difficulties caused by the conflict there, Foreign Ministry under-secretary for consular and administrative affairs Dr Mohammad Ali Bahzad said after the plane took off from Bahrain earlier in the day.
He added that the medical and first aid supplies as well as necessary medical devices would contribute to treating injuries and emergency surgeries as a result of the current crisis.
The airplane will evacuate Bahraini citizens and residents upon its return from Port Sudan International Airport to Bahrain. A recent ceasefire deal agreed by the warring factions has raised hope of a pause in the war that has driven more than a million from their homes.
