Funeral-goers were shocked to see the deceased 'come back to life' and knock on the coffin during her own funeral in Babahoyo, Ecuador.
76-year-old Bella Montoya was declared dead at the hospital after she suffered a stroke, according to reports. Her son then took her to a funeral home, where they placed Montoya inside a casket for four hours.
When the funeral home workers were about to change her clothes for viewing by her family, they started hearing noises from inside the coffin and noticed that she was still alive. She was moving her arm, opened her eyes, and opened her mouth to breathe.
The funeral home immediately called paramedics, who took Montoya away on a stretcher to the Martin Icaza Hospital. She was then placed under intensive care.
Ms Montoya is currently intubated and under observation. The hospital and the doctor who initially declared her dead are under investigation by Ecuador's Health Ministry.
