A CLAMPDOWN on illegal street vendors, businesses flouting laws and undocumented workers has been extended to include more areas in the capital.
The campaign, which began in the Old Manama Suq, was expanded to Manama Central Market and has now moved to Gudaibiya and Sitra.
On its Instagram account, the Capital Municipality posted videos and images of municipal workers removing goods displayed on steps of shops on Abdulrahman Al Dakhel Avenue and the nearby streets.
The Capital Trustees Board has announced that legal and administrative measures would be taken against businesses found violating health and safety laws.
The raids were carried out in partnership with the Interior Ministry and the Labour Market Regulatory Authority.
Inspections were also conducted in the Sitra Central Market to ensure that all the stalls have valid licences and warn vendors with outstanding municipal fees to pay up.
“It is important to contact the board’s revenue department to settle fees and any legal matters,” added a statement yesterday.
Meanwhile, a number of workers who violated labour and residency regulations were arrested during inspection campaigns on shops selling and buying used spare parts in the Southern Governorate.
Legal measures were taken against the violating shops. All violators will be referred to the Public Prosecution.
The Southern Governorate Police Directorate conducted the inspection campaigns to combat irregular labour and monitor laws and regulations’ violators.
This is in continuation of its periodic security and inspection campaigns in co-ordination with the Labor Market Regulatory Authority and a number of Interior Ministry directorates.
