THE 24th annual Imam Hussain Art Festival has opened in the Manama Processions Area.
The festival includes an art workshop and gallery for local artists, photography and children’s corner, and sections for health and environmental awareness.
Activities are being held in a designated tent on Imam Hussain Avenue under the theme, ‘My heart to yours is peace’, to mark Ashoora, which commemorates the death anniversary of Imam Hussain.
It is being organised by the Jaffari Waqf Endowment Directorate and is overseen by top Bahraini artist Sayed Abbas Al Mousawi.
Also present are representatives from the Tree of Life Charity Society, Al Kawther Society for Social Care and the Bahrain Society for Sickle Cell Anaemia Patient Care alongside registration for the Imam Hussain Blood Donation Campaign to be held on Thursday and Friday.
The tent will continue being open until Saturday afternoon.
The opening ceremony was attended by Capital Governor Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulrahman Al Khalifa, the directorate’s board chairman Yousif Al Saleh and Capital Trustees Board chairman Saleh Taradah.
“There is a vast participation from everyone in the community in artistic, social and cultural activities mainly those held in the Manama Processions Area,” said Mr Al Saleh.
“Things are developing and evolving with a wider range of programmes being made available over the years that interest the public,” he added.
“Ashoora is a time when everyone comes together and this contributes to the success of whatever is presented or made available, whether main or accompanying activities.”
Shaikh Rashid honoured all participants before touring the processions’ area alongside policemen.
Meanwhile, Health Minister Dr Jalila Al Sayyed opened the temporary Imam Hussain Emergency Clinic in the Manama Processions Area in the presence of Shaikh Rashid.
“The clinic provides the best services for worshippers, mourners and visitors on site,” said Dr Al Sayyed.
“It is our duty to ensure that people are safe and in good health during the season in all locations in Manama.”
