Bahraini bodybuilders shone during the first day of the 4th West Asian Bodybuilding Championship, bagging a total of 12 medals, including 7 gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze.
Patronised by Supreme Council for Youth and Sports first deputy chairman, General Sports Authority chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the tournament, with 160 participants in the fray, began yesterday at the Shaikh Abdulaziz bin Mohammed Al Khalifa Hall in the University of Bahrain (UoB) Sakhir Campus.
The gold medallists for Bahrain include Abdullah Isa Ahmed (master physique category), Ali Ebrahim Mohamed (muscular physique category), Ali Ebrahim Mohamed (muscular physique category champion), Ahmed Al Thawadi (physique category 176cm), Abdulrahman Bushaqr (physique 182cm), Ali Yasser (junior classic physique) and Mohammed Naji Ali (classic physique 171cm).
Sayed Hussain Juma (muscular physique 179cm) and Abbas Najer (muscular physique over 179cm) won silver medals, while Mohammed Jaleel (master physique), Abdulla Mansoor (physique 173cm) and Mohammed Bukhallaf (classic physique 175cm) clinched bronze medals.
The tournament, organised by the Bahrain Bodybuilding Federation (BBF) under the supervision of the International Fitness and Bodybuilding Federation (IFBB) and the West Asian Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness, ends today.
The 160 contestants are from the UAE, Syria, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Yemen, Palestine, Lebanon, Iran, as well as a number of other nationalities residing in various West Asian countries after the decision of the IFBB to allow them to participate in it, namely Pakistan, Britain, Egypt and Nigeria.
