A fishing competition organised by the Bahrain Inherited Traditional Sports Committee (Mawrooth) starts from today.
The organising committee of the sixth edition of the Nasser bin Hamad Marine Heritage Sports Season met participants of the “Haddak” competition that ends tomorrow at Hair Shtayyeh island.
Committee member Ahmed Shamlan said that more than 150 teams comprising 600 individuals had registered for the competition.
Participants have to catch different types of fish such as hamour (grouper), chan’ad (kingfish), she’ri (emperor), jed (barracuda), and the first place will be given to the team that catches the largest fish in different categories.
The Nasser bin Hamad Marine Heritage Season, organised by Mawrooth, is one of the most prestigious competitions in the kingdom.
The event was launched years ago to revive traditional sea sports, and the mission is to preserve the pride and heritage of Bahraini sporting events continues as it is now in its sixth edition.
Meanwhile, the ninth edition of the Nasser bin Hamad Falconry and Hunting Season will make its return next month and will continue until February 2024.
