A NATIONAL committee comprising government entities as well as charity and professional associations is to be set up to help Palestinians who are swamped by death and destruction in the besieged Gaza Strip.
This follows directives by His Majesty King Hamad to launch a national campaign, Help Gaza, that will unify humanitarian efforts in Bahrain.
His Majesty’s representative for humanitarian work and youth affairs Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa yesterday ordered the setting up of the committee.
Shaikh Nasser said the National Committee for the Support of the Palestinians in Gaza will unify aid efforts after urgently assessing the requirements.
He pointed out that the King has always been supportive of countries undergoing various hardships and thanked him for the support received by the Royal Humanitarian Foundation (RHF) from the government led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
He assigned RHF secretary general Dr Mustafa Al Sayyed as the chief executive of the committee. Dr Al Sayyed said the committee is preparing to launch initiatives to support the people of Gaza.
Authorities in Gaza said at least 2,670 people had so far been killed by Israel’s retaliatory strikes, a quarter of them children, and nearly 10,000 wounded. Another 1,000 people were missing and believed to be under rubble.
Gaza hospitals are running short of supplies and struggling to cope with the numbers of wounded.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken met Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince and Prime Minister Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud in Riyadh and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi in Cairo who told him that attacks on Palestinians and collective punishment must stop.
