Bahrain last night mourned the tragic death of BDF serviceman Major Mohammed Salem Mohammed Anber who succumbed to the injuries he suffered in a terror attack by Houthi forces last month.
The latest casualty takes the death toll to five BDF servicemen.
The BDF yesterday said it deeply mourned the loss of the fallen serviceman who valiantly gave his life in the line of duty. He was receiving treatment in a hospital in Saudi Arabia.
BDF forces were stationed on the southern borders of Saudi Arabia as part of the Arab Coalition forces participating in Operation Decisive Storm and Operation Restoring Hope when they came under a drone attack on September 25, despite a truce in hostilities being agreed. First Lieutenant Mubarak Al Kubaisi, Private First Class Yaqoub Mohammed, First Warrant Officer Adam Salem Naseeb and First Lieutenant Hamad Khalifa Al Kubaisi were killed.
“The General Command of the Bahrain Defence Force extends its deepest condolences to the family of the fallen serviceman, praying to Allah the Almighty to rest his soul in eternal peace, and for the injured a speedy recovery,” the BDF said in a statement yesterday.
BDF Commander-in-Chief Field Marshal Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa received the body of Major Anber at the Isa Air Base.
The body arrived on board a Royal Bahraini Air Force military aircraft. A military ceremony was conducted in the presence of senior officers and the family of the fallen serviceman.
Defence Minister Lieutenant General Abdullah bin Hassan Al Nuaimi and BDF chief of staff Lt Gen Theyab bin Saqr Al Nuaimi were present.
National Security Adviser and Royal Guard Commander Lt-Gen Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Royal Guard Special Force Commander Colonel Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Defence Minister and BDF Chief of Staff later performed the funeral prayer for Major Anber at the Al Hunainiya cemetery.
They extended the condolences of His Majesty King Hamad, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, and Prime Minister; Field Marshal Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa and those of their own to the serviceman’s family, wishing the injured a speedy recovery.
The BDF Commander in Chief affirmed that the noble sacrifices of the brave servicemen will remain a source of pride for the nation, as they have lost their lives while valiantly performing their national duties.
The funeral prayer was attended by senior BDF officers, officials, family members of the fallen serviceman and scores of citizens.
