HIS Majesty King Hamad yesterday deputised Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the King’s representative for humanitarian work and youth affairs and Supreme Council for Youth and Sports (SCYS) chairman, to attend the closing ceremony of the sixth edition of the Nasser bin Hamad Marine Heritage Season.
SCYS first deputy chairman, General Sports Authority chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa also attended the ceremony organised by the Bahrain Inherited Traditional Sports Committee (Mawrooth), at the outdoor arena of the Bahrain National Museum.

Shaikh Nasser witnessed the King’s Cup rowing race of the 30-foot heritage boats, over 3,000 metres, and the joint Gulf race of the traditional 22-foot sailing boats, which was co-organised by the Bahrain Inherited Traditional Sports Committee and the UAE-based Al Udeid Marine Sports Club.
He also attended the freediving competition (without using modern equipment) for professionals, and the open water swimming challenge for contestants aged over-40.
Shaikh Nasser then crowned the winners of all competitions, and congratulated all the participants for the distinguished level they had showcased.
