Parliament Speaker Ahmed Al Musallam yesterday held an urgent meeting with two MPs who were embroiled in a war of words during last week’s session over claims that the joint subsidies and allowances committee had been meeting for the past five years without any significant results to show for it.
Mr Al Musallam said the aim of the meeting, prior to today’s weekly session, was to clear any misunderstanding between first deputy speaker Abdulnabi Salman and MP Hamad Al Doy.
“MPs are a family and it is necessary to clear any misconception regarding the work of the joint special committee alongside other issues,” said Mr Al Musallam.
For three consecutive sessions, Mr Al Doy had asked Mr Salman to provide answers on the progress of the joint debate.
“Basically nothing much has been done, even in the past year, except for achieving the BD6 pension pay rise,” Mr Al Doy alleged. “We are here to represent the people who are facing hardships in life, and here time and time again we get no answers,” he added.
Mr Salman lashed out at the MP, saying that he was new and perhaps didn’t understand how the system worked. He added that the regular committee meetings were being postponed due to government commitments.
