BRAVE Combat Federation’s return to Brazil has produced one of the craziest official weigh-ins in recent memory. In an extraordinary turn of events, the super welterweight bout between Luiz Cado and Vernon Ramos has been bumped up to the main event in today’s BRAVE CF 78 following several weight-misses and fight cancellations.
Everything kicked off with Joilton Lutterbach missing weight for his super lightweight bout against Luan Santiago. Due to the fact that it was a big miss at 1.55kg over, Lutterbach has been dropped from the fight card. However, Santiago stays on and will now face Manuel Mena, who was initially slated to fight at lightweight against Marcelo Marques.
However, Mena missed weight by a whooping 3.4kg and is now eligible to fight at super lightweight, hence the move to face Santiago. Mena’s previous opponent Marques now faces promotional newcomer Walysson Guerra, who has stepped up on a day’s notice to fight Marques in what is now a catchweight bout of 72.5 kg.
With those two major changes, Cado and Ramos, who made weight comfortably, showing their professionalism, have been rewarded with the first international main event spots of their careers.
Aside from Mena and Lutterbach, two other fighters missed weight, but their bouts remain unaltered – Edilceu Alves was 0.4kg over for his flyweight co-main event bout against Marciano Ferreira, while Wilker Nsamo was 0.3kg over for his featherweight bout against Ronian Israel – both men will forfeit 20 per cent of their purses.
BRAVE CF returns to Brazil after a four-year hiatus with its first event in Fortaleza, in association with leading local promotion Victorious MMA. This is BRAVE CF’s fifth event in Brazil, and Fortaleza becomes the third Brazilian city to host a BRAVE CF show.
