A major Saudi-backed initiative to plant 100,000 trees in Bahrain kicked off yesterday.
The initiative was launched by Saudi Arabia’s Tanmiah Food Company in partnership with Bahrain’s Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture Ministry and Saudi Environment, Water and Agriculture Ministry.
The inauguration was attended by Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture Minister Wael Al Mubarak, Oil and Environment Minister and Special Envoy for Climate Affairs Dr Mohammed Bin Daina, and Saudi National Centre for Vegetation Cover and Combating Desertification chief executive Dr Khaled Alabdulkader on behalf of the Saudi Environment, Water and Agriculture Minister.
Mr Al Mubarak affirmed Bahrain’s commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2060, quadrupling the number of mangroves, and doubling the number of trees, in general, in the kingdom 2035.
“The kingdom plans to increase the number of trees through projects, initiatives and partnerships to enhance sustainable environmental security and adapt to climate change,” he said.
He praised Saudi Arabia’s role in supporting international efforts to preserve the environment, and its initiative to plant 100,000 trees in Bahrain as part of its commitment to supporting environmental sustainability in the region.
Dr Bin Daina said that the initiative is part of the Bahraini-Saudi co-operation in the field of agriculture, environment and sustainable development and it aims for a more sustainable future.
He praised Saudi Arabia’s campaign to promote environmental sustainability and its Middle East Green Initiative.
Dr Alabdulkader said that the Middle East Green Initiative aims to provide a greener and more sustainable future in the region, through co-ordination between Middle East countries to promote a prosperous ecosystem for all.
