DEPUTY King His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa has paid tribute to brave and loyal soldiers who have sacrificed their lives for the country.
He recalled the contributions of martyrs of duty, noting that they embodied the best values of bravery and redemption, and set themselves as role models for patriotism for the next generations.
HRH Prince Salman made the statement as he patronised a ceremony marking Commemoration Day at Sakhir Palace yesterday, on behalf of His Majesty King Hamad, the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces.
He pointed out that December 17 is a day to remember the sacrifices of brave Bahraini servicemen who have lost their lives in Bahrain or abroad while defending the values of right and justice, safeguarding the national security and sovereignty and fighting terrorism, as well as extending humanitarian relief to the afflicted, in line with the Islamic precepts and deep-rooted national values.
HRH the Deputy King saluted members of the armed forces and security authorities for their unwavering commitment to serving the kingdom and its people with courage and valour.
He affirmed that every fallen serviceman is a national hero, noting their actions will remain engraved in the national memory.
HRH Prince Salman indicated that the families of the fallen servicemen are as heroic as their sons who fell in the line of duty, citing their patriotism, and commitment to instil love for the kingdom in the minds and hearts of their children.
HRH the Deputy King commended Bahraini citizens for their admirable attitudes, unity and dedication in supporting the families of the deceased servicemen, demonstrating the cohesion of Bahrain’s society.
HRH Prince Salman, who was accompanied by a convoy of cavalry, was welcomed by BDF Commander-in-Chief Field Marshal Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, National Guard Commander General Shaikh Mohammed bin Isa Al Khalifa, Interior Minister General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, Royal Guard Special Force Commander Colonel Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, in addition to senior officials, senior officers and families of fallen servicemen.
After the National Anthem was played and verses from the Holy Quran were recited, the artillery fired one shot, a minute of silence was observed, and then a second artillery shot was fired.
A musical band played the Last Return melody, which ended with a flypast by a fighter jet squadron from the Royal Bahraini Air Force (RBAF), in tribute to the fallen servicemen.
Cassation Court’s Sharia Department chairman and Al Fateh Mosque Imam Shaikh Adnan Al Qattan delivered a speech, paying homage to the fallen heroes and offering prayers for them.
After that, the Royal Protocols Chief requested HRH Prince Salman to water the palm tree, a symbol of eternal life.
HRH the Deputy King was accompanied by Isa Bin Salman Education Charitable Trust board of trustees chairman and Labour Fund board of directors chairman Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa and Major Shaikh Mohammed bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
