BIG-HEARTED MP Mohammed Al Olaiwi has stepped forward to support GDN Media’s #SaveaLifeinGaza Ramadan appeal.
He donated packages of special formula baby milk after being haunted by images from the war-torn enclave of newborns being placed in body bags.
“It was heartbreaking to witness,” he told the GDN. “I couldn’t sit back and do nothing.”
The GDN has teamed up with the kingdom’s oldest charity, the Bahrain Red Crescent Society (BRCS), in partnership with the BRCS’s sister operation, the Palestine Red Crescent Society, which has listed items desperately needed.
They include:
* Hygiene kits
* Dignity kits
* Baby milk and food supplements
* Medical equipment
“When I read the report about the initiative, it mentioned the desperate need for special formula baby milk and general medical equipment and I saw it as an opportunity to help out,” Mr Al Olaiwi added.
“There are few premature baby powder milk types available so it was easy to select some to donate, but as for baby incubators and ventilators, I believe that it would be easier to donate money to help towards equipment purchases from Jordan or Egypt.”
He hoped that the aid collected through the campaign will help provide the ‘best Eidiya’ (Eid gift) for newborns in Gaza.
“It is not all about helping them now. I hope that one day we will see their photographs as they grow up moving from kindergarten, school, university and on to work.
“Maybe they will marry and have their own children under a free Palestine.
“I have every respect for anyone who takes time to reflect on the underprivileged and support the Palestinians during these desperate times of need. Please donate to the cause.”
As reported in yesterday’s GDN, the world appears united in a push for a ceasefire in Gaza to avert a manmade famine following Israel’s war with Hamas.
This is the GDN’s third annual holy month community initiative. Last Ramadan, 40 tonnes of aid went to earthquake-devastated Syria. The GDN’s chief reporter Mohammed Al A’ali joined a delegation that witnessed the aid being handed over to the Syrian Red Crescent Society.

The listed items can be dropped off at GDN Media’s security office at The Press in East Riffa, our commercial office on Exhibitions Avenue and the BRCS headquarters, both located in Hoora.
