The annual two-month summer work ban from noon to 4pm on all outdoor work starts today.
The ban, which runs until August 31, was introduced in 2007, and is aimed at preventing heat-related illnesses amongst the most vulnerable of the workforce.
Labour Minister Jameel Humaidan yesterday urged all employers to adhere to the ban, and recommended a change in working hours or rescheduling the timings to ensure the flow of work is not disrupted during the ban period.
Ministry inspectors will be visiting construction sites to ensure adherence to the ban and catch violators who face up to three months in prison and a fine of at least BD500 and not exceeding BD1,000, or both.
The GDN reported last year that there was a 99.2 per cent compliance to the 2023 summer work ban, with 16 violations being recorded by employers and 31 violations by workers.
