Two Filipino expatriate groups have been honoured for their volunteer work and community service by the Capital Governorate.
The Philippine Bahrain Caregivers Society (PBCS) and Good Cause Bahrain were recognised for their contribution towards the Capital Governorate Volunteering Pass 2024 initiative.
The ceremony was held at the Diwan coworking space in Manama.
“The award was granted to PBCS because of its long time partnership with the Capital Governorate in the World Health Organisation Healthy City project,” PBCS adviser Yvonne Villamor explained.
“I am grateful and thankful for the Capital Governorate, on behalf of the PBCS core of officers and members for the recognition, this will serve as inspiration and motivation to us to continue our advocacy and enhance more in our hearts the spirit of community service and volunteerism.”
PBCS is currently led by Maria Perez Carmona and was commended for their dedication and social community support in health advocacy for the vulnerable members of the community.
Among the key activities supported by the group are health screening, education, food pack distribution and clean up drives.
Good Cause Bahrain, led by Antonette Guese-Avila, was honoured for its initiatives aimed at supporting underprivileged individuals, particularly through its dedicated efforts to assist labour camp residents who face challenging conditions.
Ms Avila and her team have also been involved in various clean up drives and mental health awareness programmes working hand in hand with the government.
The Capital Governorate Volunteering Pass 2024 is aimed at fostering volunteerism and community service.
Deputy Capital Governor Hassan Al Madani and information and follow-up director Yusuf Lori presented plaques and certificate of appreciation to Good Cause Bahrain and PBCS members who made significant contributions to the community.
The event was attended by government officials, community leaders and volunteers.
