WAYS of consolidating Bahrain-Hungarian ties were discussed yesterday as Foreign Minister Dr Abdullatif Al Zayani held officials talks with Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó.
The Hungarian minister, who is on an official visit to Bahrain, met His Majesty King Hamad and held talks with senior officials on stepping up co-ordination.
The two foreign ministers signed an agreement to promote investment and boost economic and trade co-operation.
Dr Al Zayani commended the progress in bilateral relations and underlined Bahrain’s dedication to strengthening links in political, economic and trade sectors.
Mr Szijjártó expressed his pleasure at visiting Bahrain and affirmed Hungary’s commitment to expanding co-operation across all sectors.
The session discussed advancing the efforts of the Joint Economic Committee in this regard.
The ministers also addressed regional and international developments, including the crisis in Gaza, efforts for a lasting ceasefire and facilitating humanitarian aid.
Dr Al Zayani briefed Mr Szijjártó on the outcomes of the 33rd Arab Summit, hosted by Bahrain in May.
He highlighted Bahrain’s call for an international peace conference to establish the two-state solution for Palestine, as well as initiatives aimed at supporting those affected by conflicts and fostering digital innovation.
Both ministers underscored the necessity of putting an end to all global conflicts, including the Israeli-Palestinian crisis, and highlighted the importance of promoting stability and peace worldwide.
The two foreign ministers later addressed a joint Press conference.
Mr Szijjártó also met Oil and Environment Minister Dr Mohammed Bin Daina, Sustainable Development Minister Noor Al Khulaif, Education Minister Dr Mohammed Mubarak Juma, Industry and Commerce Minister Abdulla bin Adel Fakhro and Youth Affairs Minister Rawan Tawfiqi.
The meetings focused on strengthening co-operation in areas such as energy, trade, education and youth empowerment, building on the existing partnerships.
An agreement was signed between the Education Ministry and Hungary’s Foreign Affairs and Trade Ministry to offer Bahraini students scholarships under the ‘Stipendium Hungaricum’ programme.
These scholarships will allow students to pursue higher education at leading universities in Hungary, with the option to study in Hungarian or other languages.
The agreement reflects Bahrain’s ongoing efforts to provide its citizens with world-class educational opportunities, aimed at fostering a skilled workforce to contribute to the kingdom’s development.
