His Majesty King Hamad was the first to greet Royal Endurance Team captain Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa upon his return to Bahrain yesterday after winning a prestigious endurance championship in France.
Shaikh Nasser, who is the King’s representative for humanitarian work and youth affairs, won the 160km World Endurance Championship in Monpazier, France.
The victory marks Shaikh Nasser’s second consecutive world title, achieved with distinction among 118 riders from 39 countries, in another historic accomplishment for Bahrain.
His Majesty said that the victory is a new achievement added to Shaikh Nasser’s record of international successes.
Shaikh Nasser represented Bahraini and Arab youth admirably at the global event, serving as a strong motivation for them to pursue further sporting achievements, and providing inspiration for young people worldwide to aim for championships, he noted.
Also present to welcome Shaikh Nasser were His Majesty’s Personal Representative Shaikh Abdulla bin Hamad Al Khalifa, National Guard Commander General Shaikh Mohammed bin Isa Al Khalifa, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports first deputy chairman, General Sports Authority chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Royal Court Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Royal Family members, ministers and dignitaries.
They congratulated Shaikh Nasser on his global sports achievement.
Students from the Education Ministry lined up to welcome him.
His Majesty also commended the excellent participation of the Royal Team’s riders in the international event and their commitment to representing Bahrain well by striving for the best results in all overseas competitions.
He congratulated all Bahraini athletes who have recently achieved commendable results in regional and continental competitions.
