BAHRAIN enjoyed a moment of pride at the Miss Universe 2024 finale held recently in Mexico as Shereen Ahmed won ‘The Voice for Change’ award.
The Filipino-Bahraini, who was crowned Miss Universe Bahrain last month, was announced as one of the seven Silver winners, alongside Raegan Rutty (Cayman Islands), Snit Tewoldemedhin (Eritrea), Matilda Wirtavuori (Finland), Opal Suchata Chuangsri (Thailand), Saran Bah (Guinea) and Anouk Eman (Aruba).
Ms Ahmed, 29, was recognised for her outreach platform Hope Amel Bahrain, through which she supports single mothers in the region with essential resources and by building a strong community.
In her latest Instagram post, the writer and TV presenter holding a bachelor’s degree in journalism and media from Middlesex University in Dubai, shared a video entitled Hope for Single Mothers in which she shares her personal journey being raised by a single mother. The initiative is inspired by Hope Amel UAE.
In another recent post, Ms Ahmed, who spent her childhood in Bahrain and currently resides in the UAE, expressed how her Miss Universe chapter might have come to an end but ‘this is only the beginning’.
A part of the post read: “My goal was to push myself beyond limits, serve my communities and honour those who have supported me along the way. Grateful for every experience, every lesson and every connection made.”
Ms Ahmed wore an embellished red gown and, for the swimwear segment, donned a modest purple suit at the pageant finale. Married women, mothers and women of all ages were allowed to compete this year, marking a first in the contest’s history.
The 73rd edition witnessed Denmark’s Victoria Theilvig get crowned as the winner, with Nigeria’s Chidimma Adetshina being announced as the first runner-up.
