Needy families have been urged to apply for waterproofing of their homes well ahead of the rainy season.
The free service is being provided by the Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture Ministry “to support vulnerable families and enhance their living conditions”.
Capital Trustees Board chairman Saleh Tarradah emphasised the importance of early action as Bahrain witnessed light to medium showers yesterday with more rain expected over the next few days.
“People should apply beforehand for the service, not when it rains and their homes leak and flood,” he added, noting that last-minute requests can delay assistance.
“By addressing the issue before the rains, the government aims to prevent damage to homes and ensure a swift response to those in need.”
Mr Tarradah pointed out that in addition to government efforts, charity societies across Bahrain have stepped in to accelerate the process.
“These organisations help identify and support families requiring immediate waterproofing in lists provided by the board or Bahrain’s three municipal councils,” he said.
“Charity societies have also stepped in to have waterproofing done as soon as possible for families,” Mr Tarradah added.
“This collaboration between public and private entities ensures that no family is left vulnerable.
“Charity societies are actively co-ordinating with the Capital Trustees Board and other local authorities to prioritise urgent cases and provide timely assistance.”
Mr Tarradah said waterproofing is a critical service, particularly for families living in older or poorly insulated homes. “During the rainy season, unprotected homes are prone to leaks, flooding and structural damage, which can jeopardise the health and safety of residents,” he explained.
“The government’s programme addresses these risks, providing a layer of protection to safeguard homes against the elements.
“The initiative also underscores the importance of preventative measures. By encouraging families to apply early, the government and partnering organisations aim to minimise disruption and avoid last-minute crises when the rains arrive.”
Needy families have been encouraged to contact the Capital Trustees Board or the three councils to apply for the free waterproofing service.
Local charity societies are also available to assist families in completing applications and expediting the process for urgent cases.
