The Arab Interior Ministers Council has awarded during its 42nd meeting in Tunisia yesterday the prestigious Prince Naif Medal for Arab Security of Excellent Class to His Majesty King Hamad in recognition of his pioneering initiatives to foster peace and security.
Interior Minister General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa chaired Bahrain’s delegation at the meeting and asserted the dire need for more efforts to enhance security, maintain order and boost joint security co-operation.
General Shaikh Rashid urged in his speech to adopt an Arab strategy for public safety as a priority, stressing the need to train civilians locally and regionally and groom volunteers to help maintain order, carry out rescue operations and handle dangerous circumstances should they happen.
Tunisian President Kais Saied received at the Presidential Palace in Carthage the ministers and noted the importance of their meeting in strengthening security co-operation.
The Interior Minister also held several meetings on the sidelines of the meeting with his Arab counterparts. He met UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Lieutenant General Shaikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan. During the meeting, he asserted historical ties between the two countries and appreciated the UAE’s honourable stand towards Bahrain. Both sides discussed security co-operation and co- ordination between the Interior Ministries of the two countries. The Interior Minister also met his Egyptian, Jordanian, Iraqi and Portuguese counterparts to discuss co-operation.
