The new BAIC BJ30 Hybrid, a mid‑size SUV blending phenomenal performance with family-friendly features, has been soft-launched in Bahrain by International Motor Trading Agency, the kingdom’s authorised BAIC dealer.
The Chinese manufacturer’s newest addition pairs a 1.5‑litre turbocharged petrol engine with dual electric motors and is now available for test drives at IMTA’s Tubli showroom, giving potential buyers an early opportunity to experience a hybrid that arrives in Bahrain with a regional award already to its name.
It was voted Best Hybrid SUV at the 2024 Arab Car of the Year (CotY) awards, held in Doha last year.
The Arab CotY panel highlighted the vehicle’s power‑to‑efficiency ratio, breadth of capability and growing popularity while presenting the prize.
The BJ30’s headline numbers are striking for its class. The combined output of its petrol‑electric system is rated at 402hp and 685Nm of torque, accelerating it from rest to 100 kmph in 6.9 seconds.
Fuel‑economy testing conducted under the Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicles Test Cycle (WLTC) showed efficiency at 6.45 litres per 100km.
Factoring in the 51‑litre fuel tank, the claimed driving range approaches 1,000 km–significant in a market where families often take long distance road trips. The powertrain is coupled to a two‑speed dedicated hybrid transmission, which allows the electric motors to operate in a higher‑efficiency band at urban speeds while providing a direct mechanical ratio for sustained highway driving.
It also comes with seven smart terrain modes — Eco, Comfort, Sport, Snow, Mud, Sand, and Wading — ensuring seamless performance, adapting automatically to every condition.
While the BJ30 Hybrid is courting suburban families, its chassis geometry suggests BAIC is also appealing to the region’s growing off‑road leisure culture.
With a 215mm ground clearance, 450mm wading depth, 25-degree approach and 30-degree departure angles, this SUV is built for Bahrain’s diverse landscapes — from city streets to coastal trails.
The body structure is bolstered by high‑strength steel that comprises 63.4 per cent of the frame, backed up by 4 million kilometres of real environment testing, from Everest base camps to desert heat.
Inside the cabin, the BJ30 features a 14.6‑inch central touchscreen paired with a 10.25‑inch driver display, both powered by software that integrates advanced driver assistance systems including automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, blind-spot detection and 360‑degree surround cameras.
BJ30 also does not compromise on comfort with front and rear power‑adjustable and ventilated seats.
With 1,496 litres of ultra-large cargo space, a flat-folding 1.9-metre bed mode, and multiple anchor points, the BJ30 is the perfect outdoor SUV.
The BAIC BJ30 Hybrid is now available for viewing and test drives at the IMTA showroom in Tubli, with exclusive booking offers and accessories for early test‑drive customers.
