FOOTBALL – DHURGHAM Ismail helped Al Khaldiya secure a 1-0 victory over A’ali in the 21st round of the Nasser Bin Hamad Bahrain Premier League at the Khalifa Sport City Stadium in Isa Town last night.
The match began cautiously with both sides assessing the tempo as the first half ended goalless. Seven minutes after the interval, Khaldiya’s Ismail sprung into action and netted the lone goal of the match.
Khaldiya’s points tally increased to 42 after last night’s victory and they continue in the second position, six points behind champions Muharraq. A’ali are ninth with 23 points.
Meanwhile, in another 21st-round match last night, Malkiya held Riffa to a 2-2 draw at the Bahrain National Stadium in Riffa.
Odah Marshall put Malkiya ahead in the second minute of the game but Riffa managed to score the equaliser in the 17th minute through Said Hassan. An own goal by Marshall in the 22nd minute gave Riffa a 2-1 lead and they continued to dominate proceedings in the second half until Malkiya dashed their victory hopes with Sayed Mohamed Adnan’s goal in the 70th minute.
Riffa occupy the third position with 35 points, slightly above Sitra on goal difference. They are followed by Malkiya in the fifth place with 28 points.
The 21st-round matches began on Tuesday with two games. Bahrain Club defeated Manama 3-1 while Sitra were held to a 1-1 draw by Al Najma. The following day, Muharraq were held to a 1-1 draw by East Riffa while Al Shabab and Al Ahli played out a goalless draw.
