The Revolutionary Guards said they had arrested a European citizen who had entered Iran as a tourist and gone to southern Hormozgan province to gather intelligence at sensitive and military sites, the semi-official news agency Tasnim reported yesterday.
It gave no details on the person’s nationality.
US Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials meanwhile arrested 11 Iranian nationals in the country illegally, the US Department of Homeland Security said in a statement.
Authorities also arrested a US citizen accused of threatening law enforcement and harbouring one of the Iranian nationals, according to the department, which oversees ICE.
