BASKETBALL – YOUTH basketball national teams participating in the U16 Asia Cup Gulf Basketball Association (GBA) Qualifiers 2025 in the kingdom are scheduled to arrive from today for the highly anticipated tournament, which is scheduled to tip off on Monday.
Five of the six GCC nations are taking part in the event, which acts as a qualifier for this year’s Fiba Asia U16 Championship, to be held in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, in September.
The competition’s official coordination meeting will be held today, with representatives from each delegation set to attend. The Bahrain Basketball Association (BBA) announced yesterday that Qatar have withdrawn from participating at the last minute. Due to this, the two-group format followed by the knockout stages that was originally announced has been changed to a single round-robin featuring the UAE, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Oman and hosts Bahrain. A new schedule is also expected to be issued by the BBA, with the games starting Monday.
The BBA announced yesterday that on opening day, the UAE will take on Kuwait in the first fixture followed by Oman facing off with Bahrain in the late game.
All contests are to be held at the BBA Arena in Umm Al Hassam.
