Bahrain's world and Olympic champion Akhmed Tazhudinov has headlined a sensational five-medal haul, including four gold medals, for the kingdom's senior men’s wrestling national team in the Grand Prix of Spain this evening.
Tazhudinov marked his return to action following nearly a year-long recovery from injury – and his first competition since the Paris 2024 Olympics – by securing first place in the men's 97kg division in the Madrid event.
Tazhudinov was joined as champions from the freestyle wrestling programme by fellow-Bahrainis Shamil Sharipov in the men’s 125kg division, Khidir Saipudinov in the men’s 79kg, and Magomedrasul Asluev in the men’s 74kg category.
The nationals' fifth medal was a bronze claimed by Alibeg Alibegov in the men’s 65kg division.
