An emergency Arab-Islamic summit will be held in Doha on Sunday and Monday to discuss the Israeli attack in the Qatari capital, according to Qatar News Agency (QNA).
A joint GCC-Russian statement issued at the 8th Joint Ministerial Meeting of the GCC-Russia Strategic Dialogue strongly condemned Israel’s attack on Qatar, which targeted residential buildings housing several members of Hamas’ Political Bureau in Doha during ongoing negotiations.
The ministers meeting in Sochi, Russia, stressed that this attack constitutes a blatant violation of international laws and norms, an assault on
Qatar’s sovereignty, and a deliberate undermining of diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving security and stability in the region.
They emphasised that such actions require a clear and firm international stance, holding the international community morally, politically, and legally accountable, and leading to effective measures to deter Israel and put an end to its repeated violations of the principles of international peace and security.
The ministers also called on the international community and the UN Security Council to assume their responsibilities in stopping such aggressions and preventing their recurrence, warning that persisting in this course of action will exacerbate regional tensions and undermine peace and stability.
They warned that the absence of a serious and decisive international position would have grave consequences for regional and global peace and security.
“We are deeply outraged by the new wave of escalation in the Middle East as a result of the air strike on Doha, the capital of Qatar. We unequivocally condemn this Israeli act and stressed the need to prevent any repetition of such actions against sovereign states, regardless of the pretexts,” Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said at a Press conference after the GCC-Russia Strategic Dialogue in Sochi.
Meanwhile, Qatar yesterday rejected a report published by Axios claiming that Doha was reassessing its security partnership with the US, describing it as “completely false.”
According to a statement issued by Qatar’s International Media Office, the GCC countries affirmed that their security and defence relations with Washington are “stronger than ever and continue to grow.”
