A total of 119 illegal expatriates were deported from Bahrain in the past week as the crackdown on undocumented expatriate workers continued aimed at stamping out labour and residency violations.
Twenty irregular workers were also detained between September 14 and 20, the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) said in a statement yesterday.
According to the latest statistics released by the labour watchdog, authorities conducted 1,236 inspection visits and 24 joint campaigns across the kingdom.
Eight of the campaigns were conducted in the Capital Governorate, followed by seven in Southern, six in Northern and three in Muharraq governorates.
These joint campaigns were carried out in co-operation with the Nationality, Passport and Residence Affairs (NPRA), the respective governorate’s police directorate and the Social Insurance Organisation.
Legal measures have been taken regarding the violations, the statement added.
Since January last year, a total of 95,299 inspection visits and 1,315 joint campaigns have been conducted, resulting in 3,391 detentions and the deportation of 10,923 irregular workers.
The LMRA affirmed that it will continue to jointly co-ordinate with government agencies to intensify inspection campaigns in all the governorates of the kingdom, and to address any violations or practices that negatively affect the stability and competitiveness of the labour market or harm the economic and social security of the nation.
The labour watchdog renewed its call on all members of the society to support the efforts of government agencies in addressing illegal labour practices, by reporting violations via the electronic form on the authority’s website www.lmra.gov.bh or by calling the authority’s call centre on 17506055 or via the government’s suggestions and complaints system, Tawasul.
Citizens and residents can also report violations by contacting the NPRA call centre at 17077077 or email info@npra.gov.bh.
