Celebrated singer Annie Lennox’s new version of ‘Why? - For Gaza’ is out now on all streaming platforms.
All proceeds are going to the @chooselove - Together For Palestine fund.
“Every penny of the fund goes to Palestinian-led organisations at the frontline of the crisis, such as Taawon, Palestine Children’s Relief Fund and Palestinian Medical Relief Society,” the entertainer said.
The song was originally recorded and broadcast as part of the Together for Palestine event in London on Sept 17.
‘This is the sound of drones and guns, watch the people run run run.
Shoot to kill them just for fun, bodies falling one by one’, the lyrics read.
The accompanying artwork is equally striking. She stands by her piano, her reflection visible on the lid, while behind her looms the image of a decimated building, a stark reminder of the devastation caused by relentless bombings.
“This is Annie Lennox at her most fearless, using her art to speak truth, to challenge, and to call for empathy in the face of unimaginable suffering,” fans said on the eurythmics-ultimate.com site.
The Scottish singer-songwriter and activist is renowned for her role in the duo Eurythmics and her successful solo career, with hits like "Sweet Dreams" and "Why".
Starting with classical studies, she shifted to pop music, forming Eurythmics with Dave Stewart in 1980, achieving global success in the 1980s. Her career includes numerous hit albums, awards like 4 Grammys and 8 Brit Awards, and significant contributions to activism for UNAIDS, earning her a British OBE.
