BASKETBALL – BAHRAIN representatives Riffa continue their campaign in the Fiba 3x3 World Tour today at the Shenzhen Masters in China.
The kingdom’s side are competing in the event with their quartet of Belgian nationals Dennis Donkor, Jonas Foerts, and Vic van Oosterwyck, along with Serbian Milos Antic.
Riffa are one of 12 teams from around the world entered in the tournament’s preliminary round. They are slotted in Pool B along with Amsterdam Rabobank from the Netherlands and Valencia from Spain.
Pool A features Ub and Partizan from Serbia, as well as Hangzhou from China; Pool C is composed of Toulouse from France, Raudondvaris Hoptrans from Lithuania, and Shanghai from China; and Pool D includes Vienna from Austria, Chongming from China, and a team from the qualifying draw.
The three sides looking to join the main draw are Samobor from Croatia, Brisbane CLB EXE from Australia, and Nosy Be from Madagascar.
Riffa begin their campaign today against Amsterdam Rabobank at 12.55pm. They then complete their schedule in the preliminaries against Valencia at 3.25pm. Both times are Bahrain.
Riffa will be aiming for a spot in the knockout stages, which will be played tomorrow beginning with the quarter-finals, followed by the semis and final.
Each of the top seven teams on the final rankings will come away with prize money from Shenzhen. The champions will pocket $40,000, the runners-up get $30,000, while third place win $22,000. From fourth through seventh, the prizes are $16,000, $10,000, $8,000, and $6,000, respectively.
Riffa are coming off a solid fourth-place finish from the Shanghai Masters last weekend.
The Fiba 3x3 World Tour is the premier street basketball series under the International Basketball Federation (Fiba). Bahrain will then feature on the calendar with the season’s curtain-closing event on November 21 and 22, entitled the Manama Final.
