ASIAN YOUTH GAMES – His Majesty King Hamad’s royal patronage of the third Asian Youth Games provides huge motivation for Team Bahrain to organise an exceptional edition of the multi-sport event.
This was highlighted yesterday by Supreme Council for Youth and Sports first deputy chairman, General Sports Authority (GSA) chairman, and Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
Shaikh Khalid, who is also the Games’ supreme organising committee chairman, received yesterday the Games’ executive committee and its chairman Yusuf Duaij Muhoorfi.
The meeting was attended by BOC vice-president and supreme organising committee vice-chairman Shaikh Isa bin Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, GSA CEO Dr Abdulrahman Askar, BOC secretary general Faris Al Kooheji, and other officials.
“The royal patronage of this continental sporting event places a great responsibility on our shoulders and motivates us to redouble our efforts to ensure the organisation of an exceptional tournament, worthy of Bahrain’s name,” Shaikh Khalid said.
The gathering came as part of Shaikh Khalid’s follow-up of the final preparations for the launch of the Games, which will be held in the kingdom from October 22 to 31 under the gracious patronage of His Majesty King Hamad.
During the meeting, Shaikh Khalid was briefed on the latest developments and technical and organisational reports submitted by the executive committee.
Muhoorfi provided a comprehensive explanation of the readiness of the sports facilities, accommodation arrangements, transportation, security and media plans, ceremonies, protocol, the coronation ceremony, and all other organisational aspects.
Shaikh Khalid praised the great efforts made by the executive committee and the working committees and thanked them for their dedication during the past period.
He stressed that what has been achieved so far – and the praise the executive committee has received from the Olympic Council of Asia within a short period of the kingdom receiving the hosting rights of the event – reflects the spirit of one team and the integration between government and private entities, and enhances Bahrain’s position as a leading sports destination in the region.
“We are proud of what has been achieved so far, and we rely on the determination of the nation’s youth and the competence of the work teams to ensure the success of this event, which is being held for the first time in the kingdom,” Shaikh Khalid noted.
Shaikh Khalid pointed out that this tournament represents a historic opportunity to showcase Bahrain’s organisational capabilities and its commitment to enhancing the status of sports in society, not only by hosting tournaments and championships, but also by building a sustainable sporting legacy that benefits future generations.
Shaikh Khalid hopes that this event serves as a platform to inspire young people and motivate them to excel, creating Olympic champions from the Asian continent in various sports.
