MOTORSPORT – BAHRAIN will be competing with a 10-driver squad in the 2025 Mena Karting Championship Nations Cup, set to take place from today until Saturday at Lusail International Circuit in Qatar.
Bahrain are one of 18 countries participating in the meeting. The others are Algeria, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Mauritania, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Tunisia, the UAE, Yemen, Iran, and hosts Qatar.
The kingdom’s representatives, supported by the Bahrain Motor Federation, will be hitting the track in three competitions, including the Mena Rotax MAX Challenge, the Mena R390 Elite Endurance, and the Mena R390 Elite Sprint.
In the meeting’s Mena Rotax MAX Challenge, Tariq Soofi is racing for Bahrain in the Micro MAX class, while Shaikh Ahmed bin Saqer Al Khalifa is competing in the Mini MAX. Rashid Hilal is in the Junior MAX grid for Bahrain and Tye Mejia in the Senior MAX, while Musaad Albassam races in the DD2 MAX and Mohamed Almahroos in the DD2 Master.
Meanwhile, Bahrain will have two pairings in the Mena R390 Elite Endurance event. Najashi Rashdan will be teamed up with Abdulla Fakhri and Mohamed Isa will compete alongside Rakan Al Fayez.
Rashdan and Isa are then also racing in the Mena R390 Elite Sprint competition.
Bahrain’s delegation arrived in the Qatari capital yesterday ahead of this week’s events. At Lusail’s karting facility, driver equipment checks, kart technical checks, the kart line-up draw and drivers’ briefings will be taking place across all competition categories.
In the Mena Rotax MAX Challenge, the on-track action gets underway tomorrow with practices, which continue until Thursday. Qualifying and the heats will then be held on Friday, setting the stage for the pre-finals and finals on Saturday.
Practices amongst the Mena R390 Elite karters will also be held from tomorrow. They will set the stage for the main endurance sessions on Friday, which culminate with a two-hour race. The main sprint programme is then scheduled for Saturday, including a 20-lap final.
The podium ceremonies are scheduled to take place later Saturday evening.
