CRICKET – MORE than 1,000 cricket enthusiasts attended a watch event of an ICC Women’s Cricket Week World Cup match, hosted by the Bahrain Cricket Federation (BCF) at Water Garden City.
The event was a vibrant and inclusive occasion, with those on hand predominantly young girls inspired to take up the sport.
A live screening of the India and England Women’s World Cup match was shown, while a softball cricket try-out that featured over 250 new players was held in a specially designed cricket cage.
The event was inaugurated by Capital Governorate information and follow-up director Yusuf Yaqoob Lori alongside BCF dignitaries including advisory board chairman Mohammed Mansoor, president Sami Ali, general secretary Kishore Kewalram, and treasurer Meenaz Ahmed.
Mansoor expressed his gratitude to Supreme Council for Youth and Sports first deputy chairman, General Sports Authority chairman, and Bahrain Olympic Committee president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa for his unwavering support to developing sports in Bahrain. He emphasised the role of the International Cricket Council (ICC) in expanding cricket’s global reach and highlighted BCF’s commitment to grassroots development, especially through the ongoing Criiio Cricket Festival in 16 schools, engaging over 500 girls aged 13 to 17.
Lori praised the overwhelming response and encouraged continued support for women’s cricket, while Ali thanked schools, parents, and players for embracing cricket as a preferred sport.
