BEACH VOLLEYBALL – Bahrain's teams were on the losing end of their matches last night in the boys’ and girls’ beach volleyball competitions in the third Asian Youth Games.
Karrar Yaqoob and Hussain Warqaa lost both their fixtures in Group B of the boys’ preliminary round.
They first suffered a 0-2 (13-21, 19-21) defeat to Hafiyan Azam Nuruddin and Fairuz Bayhaqly from Indonesia, and then lost 0-2 (17-21, 13-21) to Kittiwat Suwansirirat and Boonyarit Maneewan from Thailand.
Suwansirirat and Maneewan are now tied first in their division standings on six points with Didula Salpadoruge and Kusal Midigaspage Don from Sri Lanka.
Yaqoob and Warqaa are last with three defeats.
On the distaff, Bahrain’s Layan Majed and Maya Falah first bowed to Maryan Qatabi and Layan Shahaltough from Jordan 0-2 (7-21, 15-21) yesterday in Pool B of girls’ play.
They then lost 0-2 (8-21, 1-21) to Natthawiw Khampila and Butsaba Hanmon from Thailand in their second outing.
Khampila and Hanmon are leaders in their division with a maximum six points from three wins, while Majed and Falah are second from bottom on three losses.
