KABADDI – BAHRAIN went down fighting to gold medal favourites India 40-84 yesterday in the boys’ teams kabaddi competition in the third Asian Youth Games.
It was the fifth loss in as many outings for the hosts, who put in a valiant effort against their heavily favoured opponents as they continue their competitive debut at the continental level.
India claimed their fifth triumph and remained unbeaten in first place on the standings as they edged closer to confirming their berth in the boys’ final.
In other matches yesterday, Iran routed Sri Lanka 92-23 and Bangladesh beat Pakistan 56-29.
Iran have completed their schedule with four wins from six tries and are second on the table with eight points, but Bangladesh are right behind with six and one match in hand.
Two more fixtures are scheduled in the boys’ preliminary round today, with Bahrain facing Bangladesh and India taking on Thailand. Those results will determine the boys’ teams’ finalists, who will battle for gold later in the day.
