The Shura Council is set to debate and vote on a royal decree establishing the Bahrain International Commercial Court (BICC) during its weekly session on Sunday.
The chamber’s legislative and legal affairs committee said the court will serve as a specialised judicial body capable of addressing high-value and cross-border disputes arising from international trade, finance and investment activities.
It will provide a transparent, independent and efficient platform for resolving cases involving foreign parties or governed by international commercial agreements.
Committee chairwoman Dalal Al Zayed said the BICC was a significant milestone in the kingdom’s legal evolution, reflecting Bahrain’s leadership in fostering an open, credible and globally respected justice system.
She added that the court would complement Bahrain’s long-standing commitment to judicial independence and adherence to the rule of law, both cornerstones of the country’s constitutional framework.
“The new court has been designed to attract international investors by providing them with the confidence that their commercial rights will be protected within a transparent and professionally administered judicial process,” said Ms Al Zayed.
International judges and legal experts will be appointed to the court, ensuring that it operates with both local and global legal expertise.
The committee’s report underlined that the establishment of this court was in line with international best practices, drawing comparisons with advanced jurisdictions that have adopted similar judicial mechanisms to cater to global commerce and finance.
The committee acknowledged that the court’s operations were also expected to enhance Bahrain’s regional competitiveness by reinforcing its reputation as a secure and predictable legal environment for business.
