HORSERACING – BAHRAIN’S 2025-26 horseracing season gets underway today at Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club (REHC) in Sakhir.
Eight races in honour of the Late Shaikh Rashid bin Isa Al Khalifa are on the card, starting from 4pm and running until the final event at 7.30pm, to be held under lights.
Offering the biggest prize purses on the day are races five and six – each with BD5,000 in winnings to be claimed.
The fifth race is for the Late HH Shaikh Rashid bin Isa Al Khalifa Opening Day Cup, to be held over 1,600 metres for Bahrain-bred horses. It will feature a large field of 20 contenders, all aged three years old and above.
The sixth race is for the Late HH Shaikh Rashid bin Isa Al Khalifa Graded Stakes – to be run over 1,400m. Five imported horses aged three and above are in the fray.
Elsewhere on this evening’s card, race seven for the Late HH Shaikh Rashid bin Isa Al Khalifa Cup offers BD4,000 in prize money for imported horses; while with BD3,000 in winnings each are race two for the Late HH Shaikh Rashid bin Isa Al Khalifa Sprint, race three for the Late HH Shaikh Rashid bin Isa Al Khalifa Bahrain Bred Sprint Cup, and race four for the Late HH Shaikh Rashid bin Isa Al Khalifa Mile.
The day’s programme is completed by the Late HH Shaikh Rashid bin Isa Al Khalifa WAHO Cup in race one and the Late HH Shaikh Rashid bin Isa Al Khalifa Cup Bahrain Bred Handicap in the eighth and final event, both with BD2,000 up for the taking.
The 2025-26 season features a packed calendar of events, with racing set to feature both in daylight conditions and at night.
