FOOTBALL – Riffa posted a resounding 4-1 victory over A’ali last night as the seventh week of action continued in the 2025-26 Nasser bin Hamad Bahrain Premier Football League.
Tunisian striker Youssef Ben Souda scored a brace for the winners on either side of an Ali Hasan Saeed strike, while Wellington Moreira added their fourth with the final kick of the contest, played at the Late Shaikh Ali bin Mohammed bin Isa Al Khalifa Stadium in Arad.
Three of Riffa’s goals were scored in the first half, with Ben Souda on target in the 12th minute and again two minutes into first-half injury time, while Saeed fired in in the 40th minute.
A’ali were gifted a consolation in the 62nd minute after Riffa’s Vinicius Vargas dos Santos inadvertently headed the ball past his own goal line in an attempt to clear a corner-kick.
Moreira then capped their big win after curling in a free-kick from an acute angle in the ninth minute of second-half stoppage time.
With the result, Riffa rose to 12 points to take a spot in the top three on the league table after securing their third win of the campaign. They handed A’ali their fourth loss as they stayed on five points.
In another match last night, Al Najma and Budaiya played to a 1-1 stalemate at the National Stadium in Riffa.
Ali Al Doseri put Najma ahead in the 61st minute, but then Najma’s Serbian defender Dusan Jokovic had an own goal in the 77th for both teams to come away with a share of the points.
Najma went to six points on the table while Budaiya improved to nine.
